5 lessons I learned from a Billionaire

five-lessons

When I was younger, I was fortunate enough to work for a Billionaire. I managed one of his companies, and because of that, I had almost daily contact with him.

Here’s what I learned from my time working with him.

  1. Everyone had to fit in with his schedule. It didn’t matter what you had planned or how you wanted your day to go, when he wanted to speak with you, he expected you to be there. He saw me, and his other managers as an extension of him. He needed us to fulfil his thoughts.
  2. He never wasted time. He would never take a meeting or go to a function unless it helped him in some way. He also seldom ate alone. Every meal was just an opportunity to talk with people he needed something from.
  3. His meetings where super-fast. People used to assume when they met him that they would be some kind of social interaction with him and exchange of pleasantries. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It usually went something like this. “Have a seat Mark. Tell me what you want and what you expect to get from this meeting.” The person then had about five minutes to explain what they wanted, and almost instantly, he would give them an answer. A long meeting would last about 15 minutes.
  4. For him, it’s not a job it’s a lifestyle. He literally never took a day off. You see, for him, this was his life. The thing he loved. He was at his happiest when he was achieving something. If he wanted to go to the beach, it just got incorporated into his day. He did what he wanted, when he wanted.
  5. He didn’t mind failure. He used to say to me that “if you are not making mistakes, you are simply not extending yourself far enough.”He didn’t care if something worked or it didn’t, just as long as it was executed properly.

I have reduced everything I learned working with that Billionaire and hundreds of entrepreneurs down to a formula. I call it the VSPOE formula, and I will be teaching that formula on a free webinar. You can register for it here.
